I would like to ask what nursing monitoring parameters (both frequency and type of assessments and for how long these need to be repeated for) your organizational policy outlines for patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) therapy—specifically for demand-only PCA as well as continuous infusion + demand PCA.

We are currently revising our policy and are interested in learning what other institutions require to ensure PCA safety while also minimizing unnecessary nursing burden.

If anyone is willing to share their policy or provide an overview of your monitoring practices, it would be greatly appreciated.
