Flushing intermittent meds with no IV fluids on primary line

Good afternoon,

We are a pediatric institution seeking to optimize our current process for flushing intermittent medications when primary IV fluids are not ordered for the patient. We need guidance with the following:

- What is your institution’s current workflow for these situations?
- Does your institution require a specific order in the EMR for flushing?
- If so, would you be willing to share the order sentence build? Dose volume/Intermittent PRN/continuous infusion/order comments?
- What size bag of IV fluids is used?

Any policies/procedure that you can provide would be appreciated.

Thank you!
