Investigational drugs in smart pump libraries

Lara Ellinger's picture

Forums:

Our hospital/clinics are in the process of standardizing smart pump libraries and we wanted to see if other institutions have put investigational drugs into smart pump libraries. It would seem challenging given the frequent updates that would be needed and the unique features of research drugs. Has anyone successfully created and maintained investigational drugs in smart pumps? If so, could you share what types of pumps you have and any challenges/lessons learned?

Opioid Withdrawal Protocol for ADULT inpatients

Forums:

Does anyone have a protocol they are using and would be willing to share? We find that patients are admitted for other reasons (for example, deep seated infections) and we don't have a standard approach to treat their withdrawal. Sounds like an excellent resident project!

Med Pass Audit Tools

Paul MacDowell's picture

Forums:

Hi there:

I am working with our RN Q&S colleagues to revise the hospital observational medication audits on the floor (med pass audits).

There was some discussion on the message board about this previously, but did seem not generate a lot of response-- thought I would give it another shot.

Wondering if others had a particular format, checklist, or software for completing these audits?

Please feel free to share any forms or experiences with this.

Thanks,

Paul

Infusion pump library strategies

Gina Ellis's picture

Forums:

What does your infusion pump library look like for medications that have different doses/dose ranges based on indication or organ function? Example: We have Alaris/EPIC integration and we have different vasopressin entries (shock versus GI bleed). We are specifically looking at bivalirudin and the potential use in ECMO. We already have two entries (bivalirudin PCI and bivalirudin PCI with renal dysfunction) and are wondering what strategies others have put into place in order to optimize guardrail limits without overloading the number of entries.

thanks,
Gina

pneumococcal vacc23

Forums:

CDC guidelines on pneumococcal vaccination-patients who do not meet age/disease state criteria but receive multiple doses of PPSV23, what could be health implications of this? other than duplicate costs of medication/labor, if there have been cases where a patient has received several doses of PPSV23, once a year repeated in less than 5 yrs.

RFID for infusion pumps

Karen Thompson's picture

Forums:

This might be a little off topic, but... Do any facilities use RFID tags, or something similar, on their infusion pumps so they can find them? We recently purchased 20 PCA modules for our Alaris pumps, and most of them are MIA. It is a ridiculous waste of time and money to not be able to find these pumps when you need them. Any help is appreciated!
