Medication Safety and IT Collaboration

Friends and Colleges,

Members of the ASHP Medication Safety Section Advisory Group are partnering with members from the Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology to learn how we can better partner together to improve patient safety. We would like feedback from as many people as possible:

1. Does your organization have a dedicated person for safety and for IT (can be part-time, full-time, etc..)?
2. If yes, how often do these employees partner together on work?
3. When new IT changes affecting the medication use system are being developed and deployed, is the medication safety specialist involved in design and review?
4. When safety issues occur within the medication use process, is this information shared with IT to discuss options for leveraging technology?
5. Do you have any examples of safety and IT partnering together to enhance the safety/functionality of any aspect of the medication use process?

We would love to hear from you!

Thanks in advance,
Shawn Boland
