It's that time again!

Patient Safety Awareness Week (PSAW) is coming up in March!  This year PSAW is set for March 12-18, 2023. Patient Safety Awareness Week serves as a dedicated time and platform for growing awareness about patient safety and recognizing the work already being done. This annual recognition event encourages everyone to learn more about health care safety. During this week, organizations inspire action to improve the safety of the health care system - for patients and the workforce.  A lot has changed since To Err is Human was released, but there is also still a long way to go!

Pharmacy departments are intimately involved in promoting medication use safety during Patient Safety Awareness Week.  Here is a prioritized list of ideas to celebrate Patient Safety Awareness Week based on level of effort to implement.  The list incorporates some fresh ideas and even includes material from the World Health Organization's Medication Without Harm campaign for you to peruse and use!

My favorite is again the Digital Poster / Screensaver/ Virtual Background - Consider the use of digital posters on workstation computers so that every computer in the health-system suddenly becomes a "poster" for patient safety! It can also double as a background for online meetings. Feel free to use this one or create one of your own!
